Mom, let them go

For a myriad of reasons, Moms often make the mistake of hanging on to their adult children. The reality is, as hard as it is – they have grown up and the past is the past and it is past.

As Moms, that’s tough. We are natural nurturers.

However, our “offspring” are starting to go “off” and our role must change.

Off to college, jobs, travelling, marriage … they begin to take responsibility for their lives. Albeit many are immature and not ready – however, the seasons of life change for them as well as for us.

Time marches fast.

“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down”. Proverbs 14:1

A wise mother will recognize her season and make the necessary adjustments.

A wise woman builds her house … ask God what that looks like for your family in this season of life.

I trust you tried your best to raise your children when they were impressionable and under your care. If you feel you failed, talk to God today and ask for His wisdom on the matter. He’ll tell you what to do to make things right.

Or … perhaps you are struggling in this area of letting your children mature into adulthood, again, allow me to encourage you to go to the wisest parent of all – our Heavenly Father and ask Him what to do in this new season.

Jesus says:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

 Today’s Prayer:

“Heavenly Father, teach me how to act in this new season of life. Mature me Lord, so I can be a blessing to my children. Teach me to be a wise mother and keep building my house, but in a different way in this season. Lord, help me to change”.
