Need a Miracle?

Have you ever wondered if God really leads His people? Does He really go before them and make a way when there seems to be no way?

This last month I have been reading through the book of Exodus in the Old Testament. You may recall this story. The Israelites had been beaten down by the tyranny of the Egyptians for some 430 years and were basically sick of it. God spoke to His servant Moses and asked him to lead the Israelites back to their homeland.

The Pharaoh of the day, wasn’t too keen on allowing them to vacate Egypt, as the Israelites had become their slaves. After much heartache, he finally let the people go.

However, after a couple days’ journey on foot, he decided he wanted them back and chased after them, on horseback.

Bad idea. They are God’s people.

Since there were no GPS’s in those days, God used a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire to keep His people on course.

What’s interesting is: when the Egyptians came within attacking distance, God moved the cloud behind the Israelites, making sure the Egyptians were on the dark side … and there they sat.

However, Moses had a bigger problem than the chase by Pharaoh, the Red Sea.

Before him was this body of water and around him were “600 thousand men on foot besides children” (Exodus 12:37) Whew … what to do?

He prayed and God caused a wind to blow all night.

Like a concrete wall on both sides, the Red Sea parted and the water stood firm. This host of people started walking to the other side. What a sight that must have been! I wonder what was running through their mind? Can you imagine walking between walls of water?

The Bible is so interesting.

At some point the cloud moved away and Pharaoh was outsmarted. He continued his chase right into the Sea.

Remember my question? Does God really lead His people? Does He really go before them and make a way?

Yes, yes, yes!

As soon as the last person crossed, the Sea returned to it’s depth and not one of their enemies survived.

I love this story – the God of Moses, is our God. He hasn’t changed. He still can make a way when there seems to be no way. The stories in the Bible are for our encouragement and hope.

He still parts “Red Sea’s” … do you need a miracle today?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

 Today’s Prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, you are the same yesterday, today and forever. What you did for Moses, you can do for me. Please part my “Red Sea” … bring about a miracle. Thank you”.
