an athlete in training

I love watching the Winter and Summer Olympics.

Listening to athletes share their journey to excellence and watching them perform; is just plain wonderful. They have such perseverance and grit – all of them reaching the top of their game. You can be sure this summer I’ll be watching!

Incredibly, even now as you read this – athletes are training; all for the chance to “maybe” make an Olympic team. Quite a thought isn’t it?

A couple of years ago while watching the winner of the Freestyle Moguls compete, I was amazed. He trained extensively for a gruelling 4 years, all for a 23 second victory.

You read it right. 23 seconds. Ponder for a moment.

I remember reading a quote:

“Successful people will do what unsuccessful people won’t”.

That pretty well sums up an athlete. They train year in and year out and don’t quit.

What keeps them going?

Keeping their eye on the prize.

They persevere.

“Perseverance means that one will stay in an activity in spite of difficulties. They will remain steadfast and unmovable toward a desired goal”.

To obtain success in an area, you must set aside the good for the best, the mediocre for the excellent, the average for the grade above.

If you are a student, you study when others don’t …

If you are a Mom, you build your house and refuse to tear it down (Proverbs 14:1)

If you’re a Dad, you lead with excellence – you have a good Father ( Good Good Father)

Dear reader, persevere every day. Be the best at what you do. Where you are. Right now.

Live without regrets. We are not promised tomorrow.

Give your all to all your tasks … and persevere … like an athlete.

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”. Ecclesiastes 9:10

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it …” Isaiah 30:21

 Today’s Prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, perseverance. How I need to keep going! Teach me to stay at my present task, be it homework, housework or training – until I am finished. One day I want to hear you say, “well-done”.”

Sharing is caring!
