We Are Not Home Yet

I remember my first mission venture.

After 17 hours flying time, not to mention layovers – I arrived at the airport … not at my destination which was 2 hours up country; just at the airport.

I looked around.

Nothing looked familiar. No one looked familiar. I didn’t know the language. I wasn’t sure who to look at. Where to look.

The food looked odd. The currency was confusing.

The people. There were people everywhere. Solid walls of people.

Having never travelled outside North America – I was in culture shock.

Continuing on my journey to an orphanage, again, everything unfamiliar. The earth looked reddish, dry and it was hot. The cars were tiny and the horns. Oh the horns. The driving was unbelievable, however, to my amazement, everyone knew how to wiz in and out. The bicycle’s. The motorcycles. They were everywhere.

For certain – I was not home.

Sometimes our earth journey feels the same way. Governments in turmoil, weather unpredictable, money loses its value …

Rent too high, buying is out-of-the-question, fear and anxiety make the headlines – yes for certain, we are not home.

I remind myself of that truth often. I am not home. The Bible describes the life of believers in Jesus as pilgrims, passing through a country, looking for another (Hebrews 11:8-10)

1 Peter 2:11 puts it this way:

“Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls”.

Home is coming for those with prior reservations.

They call it heaven (“I Can Only Imagine“)

This is what Jesus said:

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also”. John 14:2,3

And that, dear reader – is home.

Today’s Prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, home. One day we will be truly home. I know you have prepared a place for me and I am ready when you are”.
