Today's Blessing

An enormous group of people came up against an impossible situation. With the Red Sea before them and an army fast approaching behind them, certain death stared them down. All of a sudden - God intervened. Throughout the night strong winds blew and the Red Sea parted. They had a dry path to cross over. “Do you need a miracle today?”

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. Exodus 14:13 (NIV)

a minute for moms

Dear Mom,

God is looking for mothers who are looking for Him. With your solitary life, God can do abundantly, more than you can imagine. The Bible says, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8) What an invitation! Just draw near. When I was a young mom with a houseful of kids, I couldn’t go a day without asking for His help. Sweet Mom, every day, take a few moments to, “Draw near to God,” and pray.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. (2 Chronicles 16:9, NKJV)

Dear Mom,

We just don’t like it when our kids complain about making their beds, or emptying the garbage or some other chore you ask them to do. Did you know the Bible says to do everything without complaining? It actually says that… and maybe we should do it ourselves! God’s word is so practical; even down to doing things without grumbling. What a great principle for ourselves and to teach to our children.

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (Philippians 2:14,15, NLT)

Dear Mom,

“I will trust and not be afraid.” I have voiced this truth thousands of times under my breath in all kinds of situations. If anxiety is overriding your peace and fretting is replacing your sleep; if worry is draining your life away, then you too need to whisper, “I will trust and not be afraid.” I know it’s easier said than done, however, the spoken word has power – say it until you believe it. God sees the beginning, the ending and the dash in-between, we can trust Him sweet Mom – do not be afraid.

“I will trust and not be afraid; … the Lord is my strength …”. Isaiah 12:2

The day dawned like the one before – bright and sunny. The young student laced her runners, snapped on her water belt and she was off. Early morning jogs are the best – she hoped today she’d clear the fog in her mind and receive some answers. Half way through her run with her mind finding no peace, she collapsed on the grass with her head in her hands. “How do I find Your will for my life? I seem to be running in all different directions. Am I in Your will now? What exactly is Your will? I don’t know which way to turn today, I am so confused. Help me God”.

I’ve asked those questions myself and have been in that state of mind. I too have put my head in my hands and had no idea what to do when I stood up. Perhaps you have too. Allow me to encourage you; along the road of life I’ve discovered a few truths that just might help …

• God has lead me through circumstances; He just caused things to come together and fall right into place.

• Other times while reading the Bible, a verse will pop off the page which God, through the Holy Spirit (who is our Comforter and Teacher) just brings alive. So alive, that I follow the revelation just revealed.

• On some occasions, I’ve heard what I call a “loud thought” which causes me to stop and ask, “is that really you Lord?”

• As well, I may be listening to a sermon or watching an interview on line and God kindly confirms what He spoke to me in private.

I love how Oswald Chambers puts it: the believer in Jesus who is walking with Him the best he can, “is God’s will”.

And there is one last piece of advice I’ll pass on to you; it comes from my mom.
When I’ve gone to her for advice, she says, “do you feel the peace of God?” If I answer with a wishy-washy, “Not really, or I’m just not sure” – she looks at me in a no-nonsense sort of way, “Wait for the peace of God”.

“… the Lord will bless His people with peace”. Psalm 29:11  Mom’s right on.

Since God’s very nature is peace; it only makes sense that He would surround us with Himself. I’ve learned the hard way not to rush ahead of God. He is never in a cloud of confusion. Even if a situation is hard and less than ideal, if we maintain a rest deep within and our communication with God is unbroken – then chances are we are in God’s will, despite the negative circumstances surrounding us day by day. His peace will confirm His presence … the peace of God which passes understanding.

“… let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4:7

Today’s Prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, help me not to run ahead of you. I wait for You to act regardless of how long it takes. I will wait for your abiding peace”.

A Minute For Moms

Dear Mom,

Philippians could be named the, “Mental health book of the Bible.” I heard it said, “Read Philippians every day for one month and your discouragement will disappear.” Why not try it? Skip scrolling through Instagram and read Philippians! Ponder the truths in this remarkable book and be encouraged. Surprisingly, this book was written from prison.

Rejoice in the Lord always. (Philippians 4:4, KJV)

Dear Mom,

There were many times, in my decades of mothering five children, that I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully, I knew, who did know. At this point, I would climb the stairs to my bedroom, close the door, fall on my knees and cry out to my Heavenly Father. “Dear God, I have no idea what to do now.” Gently, He would strengthen me, and give me a thought as to how to carry on. I would dry my tears, and do just that – carry on. You can trust Him sweet mom, He knows what to do and will bring you through everything. Talk to Him today.

I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20, NLT)

Dear Mom,

We all have the same enemy, the evil one. The Bible says he roars around like a lion seeking to destroy. Remember, he is only roaring and making noise; trying to paralyze you with fear, for one reason or another. I heard a quote once, “When the devil knocks on your door – send Jesus.” A good visual and so true. That will get him running! Sweet mom, God is in charge, is in full control and has already defeated this evil one. All is well.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.
(1 Peter 5:8,9, NIV)

Dear Mom,

A tide is a fascinating occurrence. Every few hours enormous amounts of water, simply ebbs and flows. This phenomenon parallels with our everyday life, we too, have high and low tides. However, just as marine life swims deeper when the tide is receding, so you must stay aware of changes and adjust as well. God is always with you sweet mom.

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5, NKJV) (10)

Dear Mom,

God is the mender of broken hearts. In fact, the Bible says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Is there a ‘heart wound’ that you need healed today? God knew there would be situations in life that would cripple us, and He knew we would need a healer. Jesus soothes our hurts, heals our hearts, and restores our soul. Talk to Him today.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside the still waters, He restores my soul. (Psalm 23:1-3, NKJV)

Dear Mom,

If you don’t know what to do, the Bible says to “inquire” of the Lord. The implication here is to ask for God’s direction. Just the other day I needed clarity as to what to do about a situation. I asked for direction and waited. Within a few days, I knew which way I should go by the peace I felt. I knew God had directed me. With that being said, perhaps you are unclear about a decision you need to make. Talk to God and ask for His help. Then wait. He will answer you.

“So David inquired of the Lord … And He answered Him …”. 1 Samuel 30:8
